Establishment of the National Open Data Portal Slovenia

The Slovenian state is by publishing open data for citizens and businesses laid a foundation for the digitization and enable informed decisions, build innovative new services and a better understanding of public affairs.

By establishing a government portal open data Slovenia (https://podatki.gov.si/), the Ministry of Public Administration offer access to over 318 descriptions of databases.

The information is divided into 14 areas: energy, finance and taxes, the economy, education. culture and sport, agriculture, fisheries, forestry and food, International Affairs, Environment, Justice. the legal system and public safety, people and society, transport and infrastructure, social affairs and employment, the government and the public sector, health, science and technology.

OPSI is improving day by day with new databases and descriptions of the data that are available for various analyzes, processing, interpretation, visualization, preparation of useful conclusions applications ...

The data is in machine-readable form and in open formats, thus ensuring integration of open data (so-called Linked Open Data). This is available to anyone for unrestricted re-use, which also form an integral part of t. i. semantic web.

Open data for fresh ideas on the new state portal enabling analysis of different types of data and thereby bring:

  •  easier access to raw data sets whole public sector;
  • development of new ideas and new digital services;
  • better insight into the functioning of the public sector, use of public money;
  • new solutions and increased quality of  life;
  • cooperation with various stakeholders (universities, schools, start-up and, industry, local government, researchers, NGOs ...).

As pointed out in the MPA, should public sector institutions in accordance with the Law on Access to Public Information strive to post their records and databases on the portal OPSI. Thus, the countries of the various stakeholders to ensure the publication of data on one central portal, free of charge and free further use of the data, which are published as "open" and ultimately improve the quality of data based on user responses.
