E-invoicing around the World: Macedonia Prepares for Mandatory E-Invoices

In Macedonia, after several years of preparation, active steps towards implementing mandatory electronic invoices (e-invoices) began this July. The Tax Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia (UJP), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, has introduced a project that marks a significant milestone in the digitalization of their tax system.

E-invoice Implementation Timeline

  • January 1, 2026 – start of the pilot phase with selected companies.

  • Q3 2026 – e-invoices become mandatory for all taxpayers.

Companies will have access to free applications and the option of API integration with their own systems, enabling fast, secure, and standardized invoice issuance.

Benefits for businesses and the state

With the introduction of e-invoices, companies will be relieved of unnecessary administration:

  • elimination of printing, sending, and archiving paper documents,

  • greater control over business operations,

  • secure invoice issuance with digital signatures,

  • process automation, including QR code-based posting and automatic payment orders.

For the government, the system will bring greater transparency, the ability to cross-check data, and more effective prevention of tax evasion and the grey economy.
